Development of novel free lactose milk mixed with extracted Centella asiatica beads

Extract from Centella asiatica (gotu kola) leaves is academically recognized for its key triterpenoid compounds — Asiaticoside, Madecassoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, and Brahminoside — which provide three primary health benefits: (1) anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects (Hambali et al., 2024); (2) wound healing and tissue repair through collagen synthesis (Diniz et al., 2023); and (3) neuroprotective and cognitive support. Research has advanced extraction technologies to improve compound yield using safe solvents, and the extract has been incorporated into various food products, including functional beverages and traditional Thai foods, as well as dietary supplements in tablet and capsule forms. Thai FDA regulations limit triterpenoid intake to no more than 20 mg per day. Overall, the use of Centella asiatica extract in food product development is highly feasible at both laboratory and industrial scales, with strong potential for further innovation in the functional food sector.

Development and Testing of Skin-on-a-Chip Device for Pharmaceutical and Cosmeceutical Applications

This research aims to develop and test a Skin-on-a-Chip (SoC) device that integrates skin cells and endothelial cells within a microfluidic system to closely simulate the biological environment of human skin. The device reduces reliance on animal testing while lowering research costs and time, and improves the accuracy of pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical ingredient testing. The project targets TRL 5 prototype development alongside patent filing and pilot-scale manufacturing process development, with a clear pathway toward commercial readiness within two years.

Limno Acne Gel: Limnophila aromatica Gel – Disrupting the Acne Cycle with the Power of Nature

This study aimed to develop an anti-acne gel formulation using partially purified Limnophila aromatica extract and to evaluate its antibacterial efficacy, stability, and safety in accordance with international standards. The raw material was extracted using 99.9% v/v ethanol and partially purified via ion-exchange resin column chromatography. The resulting extract was formulated into a Carbopol 940 base gel at varying concentrations. The results demonstrated that the extract exhibited potent inhibitory and bactericidal activities against Cutibacterium acnes (MIC/MBC = 14.26 µg/mL), performing twice as effectively as Centella asiatica extract and comparably to Garcinia mangostana peel extract. In formulation testing, the L. aromatica acne gel selectively inhibited C. acnes without disrupting the normal skin microbiota, Staphylococcus epidermidis. Accelerated stability testing (at 40 °C and 50 °C for 3 months) revealed excellent formulation stability, with no phase separation or precipitation and a stable pH of 5.9–6.1, indicating a shelf life of 1 year. Regarding safety, the product met international standards (FDA BAM (2024), ISO 22717:2015, ISO 22718: 2015, USP 46/NF41:2023 และ USP 44), showed no cytotoxicity toward human HaCaT keratinocytes (IC50 > 1000 µg/mL), and induced no skin irritation in a human volunteer panel of 30 subjects (Mean Irritation Index = 0.00). In conclusion, the L. aromatica acne gel demonstrates an optimal balance of efficacy, stability, and safety. Free from parabens, silicones, and synthetic fragrances, this formulation is fully prepared for technology transfer and commercialization in the cosmeceutical industry.
