Golden Banana Fries

Golden Banana Fries

Abstract

Abstract: Banana French Fries This project aimed to study and develop the product Banana French Fries, which is a snack made by frying bananas in a form similar to French fries, in order to add value to bananas and create new choices for consumers. The experiment consisted of selecting suitable banana varieties, developing a coating formula, and testing the taste of samples. The results of the study found that Nam Wa bananas are the most suitable for making banana French fries because they have a firm texture and naturally sweet taste. The best coating formula consists of wheat flour, eggs, and milk, which provide longer crispiness. The taste test found that most consumers gave a very good response and were satisfied with the taste and texture. This project shows that banana French fries are a product with potential to be developed as a healthy snack and can be further developed into a commercial product in the future.

CFD—Assisted Expert System for N2-Controlled Atmosphere Process of Rice Storage Silos

Since organic rice storage silos were faced with an insect problem, an owner solved this problem using the expert system (ES) in the controlled atmosphere process (CAP) under the required standard, fumigating insects with an N2, reducing O2 concentration to less than 2% for 21 days. This article presents the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) assisted ES successfully solved this problem. First, CFD was employed to determine the gas flow pattern, O2 concentration, proper operating conditions, and a correction factor (K) of silos. As expected, CFD results were consistent with the experimental results and theory, assuring the CFD’s credibility. Significantly, CFD results revealed that the ES controlled N2 distribution throughout the silos and effectively reduced O2 concentration to meet the requirement. Next, the ES was developed based on the inference engine assisted by CFD results and the sweep-through purging principle, and it was implemented in the CAP. Last, the experiments evaluated CAP’s efficacy in controlling O2 concentration and insect extermination in the actual silos. The experimental results and owner’s feedback confirmed the excellent efficacy of ES implementation; therefore, the CAP is effective and practical. The novel aspect of this research is a CFD methodology to create the inference engine and the ES.

Handheld Mercury Meter

This work presents the fabrication of the handheld meter for potentiometric detection of Hg (II). The meter was constructed based on using an ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) platform. The developed meter provides high accuracy and precision (%Recovery was in the range of 92.55 - 109.32 and %RSD was 2.38). It was applied to the analysis of cosmetic samples. The results by the developed electrode were not significantly different at a 95% confidence level compared to the results by using ICP-OES.

Graphene Oxide Composite Membrane for Wastewater Treatment

This research focuses on the fabrication of graphene oxide (GO) composite membranes using the Phase-Inversion Method, which transforms polymers from liquid to solid through phase separation. This process creates a porous membrane structure, making it highly adaptable, cost-effective, and suitable for wastewater treatment, separation processes, and industrial filtration applications. Graphene oxide, with its nano-layered structure, offers excellent molecular sieving properties, high water permeability, and chemical and mechanical stability, making it an ideal additive for membrane fabrication. The GO-based membrane demonstrates efficient removal of nanoparticles, heavy metal ions (Pb²⁺, Cr⁶⁺, Hg²⁺), organic pollutants, and microorganisms while exhibiting antifouling properties and high hydrophilicity due to oxygen-functional groups. Applications of this membrane include industrial wastewater treatment, desalination, and the removal of pharmaceutical contaminants, such as antibiotics and hormones. The incorporation of GO enhances membrane performance, providing a sustainable and energy-efficient solution for water purification.
