Study of Possibilities of Prototyping for Decorative Item Using Material Upcycle Process in Collaborated with Local Industry

This study investigates the feasibility of designing products from industrial waste materials at a micro-pile establishment through the Upcycle process, guided by creative innovation principles and the 3Rs framework. The research examines the types and potential of discarded materials for developing distinctive decorative and household product prototypes, achieved through collaboration among academic institutions, the industrial establishment, craftsmen, and the local community. The resulting prototypes demonstrate viable commercial potential while serving as a practical knowledge base for entrepreneurs, designers, and start-ups seeking to develop new products from waste materials in a creative and sustainable manner.

High-protein curry sheet prototype product from organic golden apple snails

The project "High-Protein Gaeng Proe Sheets from Organic Golden Apple Snails" is of great significance in terms of developing local food innovation with enhanced nutritional value, while responding to the needs of health- and environmentally-conscious consumers. The project aims to add value to the golden apple snail — an aquatic species with promising economic potential in Thailand — owing to its rapid reproduction and ability to feed on a wide variety of plant matter. The research team has been developing the breed and conducting farming trials for over five years, and has consistently presented findings at KMITL Innovation events. The project is currently seeking support from various funding sources to scale up and transfer knowledge to farmers. This project therefore serves as a valuable initiative in transforming organically farmed produce into safe and sustainable food product formats.

Development of coconut-based ice cream premix enriched with fiber and protein from insect powder

This research project focuses on developing an "instant coconut milk ice cream powder" enriched with dietary fiber and insect protein powder — a concept rooted in creating an alternative dessert product in powdered ice cream form with key strengths in health, nutritional value, and sustainability. Coconut milk, a plant-based ingredient, serves as the primary raw material in place of cow's milk, making the product suitable for individuals with lactose allergy or lactose intolerance. The product is further enriched with inulin dietary fiber to enhance its functional nutritional value, supporting the growth of beneficial gut microorganisms, helping to improve digestive balance, and aiding in blood sugar level control. Additionally, insect protein powder is incorporated as a high-quality protein source representing a future alternative protein that distinguishes this product from conventional ice cream. Furthermore, the instant powdered coconut milk ice cream format offers practical advantages — it is easy to prepare, convenient, and simple to transport and store. The product can be reconstituted into ice cream by adding water, blending, and freezing prior to consumption. It can also serve as a base for other ice cream flavors, or be further applied as an ingredient in other desserts or blended beverages. There is also commercial potential to extend the product as a health food ingredient for the food service industry. The product is developed with the concept of low fat and low sugar content, utilizing clean, safe, standardized, and environmentally friendly domestic raw materials

The Designing of 3D-Printed Modular Artificial Reef through Design Thinking Framework: A Case study in Koh Khai, Chumphon Province, Thailand

This study explores the design, production, and installation of 3D-printed modular artificial reefs (3DMARs) at Koh Khai, Chumphon Province, Thailand, through a design thinking framework. Collaborating with SCG Co., Ltd. and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the research establishes design criteria and installation methods, utilizing content analysis and qualitative research. Key principles such as modularity, flexibility, environmental sustainability, and usability are identified. The user-centered approach optimizes the 3DMARs for transport and deployment, enabling local community involvement and fostering sustainable practices. The modular design supports scalability, enhancing marine habitats and coral larval settlement. Furthermore, underwater monitoring techniques enable site-specific data collection, allowing for the generation of digital twin models. This research offers a practical framework for marine ecosystem restoration and empowers coastal communities in Thailand and beyond

A Metaverse System of Chalermphrakiat Innovation Building at King Mongkut's Memorial Park, KMITL

Traditional methods of public relations and learning often lack engagement and fail to provide users with a deep and immersive experience. Additionally, these methods struggle to reach a wide audience, especially those unable to visit the physical location. This project aims to solve the issues of accessibility and awareness regarding the institution’s Chalermphrakiat Hall and historical exhibition. Utilizing metaverse technology to simulate important locations allows users to explore the site and view key information in a virtual format, thereby enhancing the engagement of students staff alumni and the general public. The metaverse system is developed using Unity, a powerful game engine capable of supporting the creation of metaverse environments. This allows for the creation of an interactive and realistic virtual space. Unity also supports the management of physics, lighting, and sound, further enhancing realism. Additionally, the system is integrated with web browsers using WebGL technology, enabling the project developed in Unity to be accessed directly through a browser. Users can visit and interact with the metaverse environment from anywhere without the need to install additional software. The developers have thus created the metaverse system to provide a realistic and engaging learning experience, enhancing public relations efforts and fostering a strong connection with the institution efficiently.

Innovation in commercial vertical set of golden apple snails as environmentally friendly using an aquaponics system

The innovation of the vertical aquaponics system for rearing golden apple snails integrating with vegetable cultivation by using substrates to water treatment. The system aims to maximize the use of vertical space, save water, and produce safe vegetables for consumption or commercial purposes, and to support living things. The golden apple snail excretes wastes/leftover food scraps that are filtered on the substrates used for water treatment. Meanwhile, natural bacteria help change these wastes into nutrients that plants can use. Therefore, the system is environmentally friendly.

Artifical intelligence for agriculture and enviroment

Artificial intelligence for agriculture and environment is a collection of significant models for enviromental friendly Thailand development. The models create with machine learning and deep learning by Near infrared spectroscopy research center for agricultural and food products, including: Determining the nutrient needs (N P K) of durian trees by measuring durian leaves using a non-destructive technique using artificial intelligence, Identification of combustion properties of biomass from fast-growing trees and agricultural residues using non-destructive techniques combined with artificial intelligence, and Evaluation of global warming due to biomass combustion using non-destructive techniques using artificial intelligence. The basic technology used is Near infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy technology which measurement and output display can be done quickly without chemical, no requirement for special expert, and measurement price per sample is very low. But the instrument cannot be produced in Thailand.
